EVE used to be a game that supported many gaming styles and was supported by a passionate and creative playerbase and equally passionate and dedicated Devs, GMs and Mods.
What I see today is a lot of casualties to shareholder interests. Not something that really adds customer value.
Lets have a look at the EVE casualty list so far: CCP Zymurgist CCP Fallout
Both quite dedicated ressources in the EVE community. And so many others...
You - CCP - might not grasp it, but the whiny 0-Sec crews ruining their own game are not the majority of your subscribers. And fixing some bugs that will affect like 10% of the playerbase is also not like finding the holy grail.
But I am disgressing...
I'm representing the live events playerbase. CCP Dropbear & his comrades gave us something meaningful to do. Something beyond grind, something more than just Chat Roleplay. Something beyone just shooting up people for no reason.
If this is taken away from us in your strange endeavour to please shareholders and blind the masses, it might be time for some of us to actually unsubscribe.
EVE used to be an intelligent game. Now, if you only care about people (not)-shooting the shyte out of each other in Zero... I can have better spaceship PVP in Black Prophecy even if the game SOXs otherwise.
So: Please, CCP. We saw Dropbear as an unconfirmed casualty on one of the lists. We want him as our Hilen Tukoss, because he does a great job and we want live events to be part of EVE till servers melt.
Thank you for your attention. (hopefully)

How about you go spin your ship some and shut up when adults talk? |

These people have just lost their jobs, from a company that they poured their lives into.
At least afford them some damn privacy to deal with their lives before you start putting their names up in lists on public forums.
Too late for that, if you look up the main thread on this disaster and follow twitter. I think CCP is making a big mistake as you can read in my post above. |

Thank you for your attention. (hopefully) No.. of course not. But its not 10%, more like 30 or 40.. And those bugs you talk about? We have been asking for a fix for nearly four years now. Some of the "fixes"? They were stillborn, like hybrids.
I think if we had actual numbers, the fixes implemented/planned so far will only benefit /harm like 10%. I could be wrong of course, but not by the last hard numbers I saw. Which - admittedly - are like 1.5 years old. Being loud does not mean being a majority. |

These guys have made EVE Into a living breathing universe for a lot of RP Players like myself, and for that I Thank them, and give them my ongoing and continued support. Please don't fire them CCP!!!
Those who have been let go, it is with a heavy heart that I say Farewell, and I wish you all the best in the future.
If live events are a thing of the past now, it will be a great loss to EVE. It's not even the Roleplay only. It is working together towards something creative, getting to know people you would never have met before - or who would likely just shoot you down under different circumstances.
And particularly Arek'Jalaan is/was a project that really had an intelligent concept beyond just pew-pew and a chance for anyone to get involved. |

live events are exactly the sort of themepark content eve players love to hate - except it's more like a circus than a themepark and as such not even a good return on the resource investment it requires (a themepark stays there for generations of people to use & enjoy, a circus moves on after a few shows).
certainly a nice extravaganza if you have money to spare but not exactly one of the core strengths of eve.
I think you never joined an EVE live event and thus are not entitled to an opinion.
Also you do not know what a themepark MMO is: A themepark MMO gives you pre-chewed quests which you have to follow to progress, like you would the rides in a themepark. Sometimes you can decide to take one ride and not the other, but you follow a stringent path that leads you to all of the rest of the bored heroes wondering what to do next.
Live Events like Arek'Jalaan: Content is mostly made by the players. This content is also visible for other players and becomes part of EVE history.
For people who think that EVE is only about pew-pew --->> That is the way to Black Prophecy.
Pew-pew is a large part of the game. It is not the game as EVE is a space simulation. That said one of the things Arek'Jalaan does: It also leads you to dangerous places.
ROI is high, because the investment is relatively low. (Few hours in a chat each week)
EDIT: Took out the "like you". No offense meant, but you see: I can get as emotinal about things like this, as others over ship-spinning |

CCP Dropbear wrote:Firstly, thanks for show of support guys. We're really glad live events can make a meaningful impact like this, that's really epic to see. (Also, being called a fanwhore was quite heartwarming, after I looked up the meaning.)
So...Headfirst and I are both still around, and we'll continue to support events as we always have. If it means we shift some of the event work back to our "off hours" then so be it. As we've maintained since the beginning, we really love this part of our jobs, and we're happy to do whatever it takes to keep events going.
Expect a little disruption to events over the short-term, and possibly some readjustments to our resources over the long term. It's possible some of the big ideas for events may become less likely, but we'll see, and keep you all updated on any changes.
Anyways, we'll be back on the road before you know it, and pushing for more event support as we always have. Part of the short-term lull will just be us needing some time. We lost some friends in all of this, and some great thinkers. A little patience would be appreciated in the coming days.
Sooooo much GÖÑ, Dropbear and Headfirst
So goddamn glad to hear that! You guys rock. And I am very sorry for the colleagues & friends you lost and everyone will understand that Arek'Jalaan will not be the first thing on your mind for a while.
Thanks again! |
